In 2023, Spain's cumulative installed capacity of solar and wind energy will reach 58GW

According to Rystad Energy data, over half of Spain's electricity this year will come from renewable sources.

In a recent study, Rystad Energy stated that among the five countries with the highest electricity demand, including France, Germany, Italy, and the UK, Spain is expected to become the first country to generate more than half of its renewable energy generation.

It is expected that the cumulative installed capacity of solar photovoltaic in 2023 will jump from 20.5GW in 2022 to 27.4GW. Therefore, this year Spain's cumulative installed capacity of solar and wind energy will reach 58GW, a year-on-year increase of 8.2GW.

The EU will increase its renewable energy capacity by 69GW in 2023. Recently, data from the European Union shows that Spain's installed renewable energy capacity was approximately 5.9GW last year, bringing the total amount to 67.9GW in 2022. In this year's installed capacity of renewable energy, 4.5GW was solar energy, an increase from 3.6GW in 2021.

Another competitive advantage of Spain compared to the more northern regions of Europe is its advantageous solar energy resources on the European continent. Ronningen added that another secondary reason is that the population density in most parts of Spain is relatively low, which provides more space and convenience for project implementation.
