LG Electronics adopts Fractal EMS energy management system for industrial and commercial energy storage

LG Electronics has signed an agreement with Texas-based Fractal EMS to implement an energy management system (EMS) developed by Fractal EMS to manage commercial and industrial (C&I) deployments in the U.S. market by LG Electronics. energy storage system.

LG Electronics, a holding subsidiary of South Korea's LG Group, also invested an undisclosed amount in Fractal EMS, which the company said was a strategic investment.

LG Electronics will use energy storage systems manufactured and sold by LG Energy Solution, another LG Group subsidiary, and battery products manufactured and sold by LG Chem.

Its energy storage products for commercial and industrial (C&I) users currently support three main application scenarios: peak shaving, increasing penetration of renewable energy, and backup power.

Fractal EMS meanwhile describes its energy management system (EMS) as a turnkey control system for energy storage systems and other distributed energy sources (DER). The software includes hardware, software, integration, monitoring and services for the control, management and monitoring systems of energy storage systems.

Fractal Energy Storage Consultants is an independent business unit that assists clients with everything from project design and due diligence to site acceptance testing witnessing and verification, to operations, maintenance and monitoring and many other phases of a project.

Fractal EMS' energy management system (EMS) is already in use in about 3GWh of energy storage projects deployed around the world, and the company claims a further 8GWh of energy storage systems are planned to use its energy management system (EMS).

LG Electronics will also provide other building electrification technologies and products, including heat pumps and HVAC equipment. Fractal EMS' technology and LG's battery storage system will be part of a high-performance building energy ecosystem, said Thomas Yoon, president and CEO of LG Electronics North America.
