Lithium battery for solar street light: the battle between ternary and lithium iron phosphate

Because solar street lights use solar energy as energy source, they are energy-saving, environmentally friendly, easy to install, safe and free of hidden dangers, and automatic control and maintenance. They are widely used in rural road lighting. Nowadays, solar street lights have been popularized in rural areas. We all know that solar batteries are divided into lithium batteries and colloidal batteries. In the past few years, because the technology of lithium batteries was not particularly mature, people prefer to use colloidal batteries for solar street lights. However, with the maturity of lithium battery technology for solar street lights, more and more solar street lights use lithium batteries, and the common lithium battery cells on the market are divided into ternary batteries and lithium iron phosphate, so solar street lights use lithium batteries Ternary batteries or lithium iron phosphate? Which one is more advantageous?

1, ternary battery (NCM)

Advantages: performance is less affected by temperature, low-temperature resistance, and can be used in a low-temperature environment of minus 15 degrees to 30 degrees.

Disadvantages: The number of cycles is shorter, and the service life is shorter than that of lithium iron phosphate. At the same time, the safety and stability are poor, and it is easy to decompose at high temperatures. When encountering the combustible electrolyte and carbon materials in the battery, it will be a little bit, which will cause deflagration.

2. Lithium Iron Phosphate

Advantages: excellent charging and discharging performance, many cycles, longer service life, good high-temperature stability, decomposition will begin at 700-800℃, and no oxygen molecules will be released when faced with impacts, needle sticks, short circuits, etc., Will not produce violent combustion, high safety performance.

Disadvantages: performance is greatly affected by temperature, especially in low-temperature environments, the discharge capacity and capacity will be greatly reduced, and its energy density is low.

In short, ternary batteries and lithium iron phosphate have their own advantages and disadvantages. It is not possible to make an absolute conclusion on which lithium battery for solar street lights has more advantages. So far, they have not been able to distinguish the winner or loser. The ternary lithium battery has the upper hand, but the two are not perfect solutions at least at this stage. Finally, solar street lamp manufacturers believe that if they are installed in the northern region, they recommend using ternary batteries because they have better low-temperature resistance. If it is installed in the southern region, the use of lithium iron phosphate for solar street lamp lithium batteries is more cost-effective.
