New Zealand generator and retailer Meridian Energy has promised to deploy a 100MW/200MWH battery energy storage system, and its energy storage unit will be provided by SAFT.
The project will be built on a 3 hectare land acquired by the company last year, near WHANGONGREI, the northernmost city of New Zealand. This battery energy storage system will participate in energy arbitrage and frequency supervision, and help release power grid hosting capabilities in the country's North Island reserve market.
Meridian Energy said recently that the power storage system named Ruakākā battery energy storage system will be deployed in the first quarter of 2023. It is expected to be completed and put into use in the second half of 2024.
The company claims that Ruakākākākākāk capacity storage system will be the first battery energy storage system in New Zealand, but it seems that this is not the case. E -commerce Wel Networks and developers Infraatec will build another 35MW battery energy storage project on Waikato District, North Island in August this year.
Welnetworks and Infratec have also signed a contract for its projects with French battery manufacturer and battery energy storage system integrated company SAFT. The battery energy storage project will provide fast backup frequency adjustment and backup power services for Huntly town. The inverter manufacturer New Zealand Electric Power Electronics will provide the power conversion system (PCS) equipment for the energy storage project.
Even if Meridian Energy plans to deploy this battery energy storage project, even if it is completed later, the scale will definitely exceed the battery energy storage project planned to deploy in the town of Huntly. According to a briefing released by Meridian Energy recently, the project will require approximately 186 million New Zealand dollars ($ 118.2 million) in capital investment, but it will receive an income of up to 35 million New Zealand dollars each year, and the annual operating cost is 6 million New Zealand. Yuan.
In the next few years, the Ruaka battery energy storage system will be supported with a planned 130MW solar power field. Meridian Energy pointed out that solar power generation facilities and energy storage projects will be shared with infrastructure and other infrastructure to reduce operating costs.
