NFE partners with Plug Power to build green hydrogen plant on Gulf Coast

U.S. energy company New Fort Energy (NFE) has signed an agreement with fellow hydrogen company Plug Power to build a 120-megawatt industrial-scale green hydrogen plant near Beaumont, Texas.

On August 4, New Fortress Energy announced an agreement with Plug Power, a turnkey supplier of hydrogen solutions that promises to be one of the largest green hydrogen plants in North America.

The facility will utilize Plug's proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis technology to produce more than 50 tons of green hydrogen per day. The facility will be expandable to nearly 500 MW as additional supporting infrastructure is developed.

The green hydrogen project site is strategically located on the banks of the Neches River in Jefferson County, Texas. This puts it close to industrial end users and has access to reliable power and logistics, including rail, sea and existing pipelines across the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
