It is reported that Panasonic will invest billions of dollars in a second electric vehicle battery factory in Kansas, the United States, to supply Tesla with a new high-capacity battery.
It is understood that by 2028, Panasonic's electric battery production capacity will increase by 2-4 times from the current annual rate of about 50GWh. Panasonic said it will decide whether to build new production facilities depending on the profitability of production at the Wakayama plant.
On July 13, Panasonic Energy said it was developing a new technology that could increase battery energy density by 20 percent by 2030. At that time, with the same battery pack size, the technology could increase the range of Tesla Model Y electric vehicles by more than 100 kilometers.
