Diversified Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries (RIL) aims to install 20 GW of solar power capacity by 2025. Install 100GW of solar power capacity by 2030.
Reliance plans to become a net-zero carbon company by 2035.
In October 2021, Reliance acquired REC Solar Holdings, a Norway-based solar cell, module and polysilicon manufacturing company known for its high-efficiency heterojunction solar panel technology (HJT). In April 2022, Reliance also signed an agreement with Maxwell Technology to purchase eight high-efficiency production lines for HJT, each with a capacity of 600 MW, to produce 4.8 GW of HJT cells.
The goal is to increase the HJT module efficiency from the current 23% to 26% by 2026, and further increase it to 28% through innovations such as perovskite tandem cell technology. It also aims to extend the life of PV modules from 25 years to 50 years.
The company will also invest in glass and polyolefin encapsulant (POE) film manufacturing to secure supply to its module manufacturing facilities.
