Soltech Energy Solutions plans to deploy a 12MWh battery energy storage project in Sweden

Renewable energy developer Soltech Energy Solutions is deploying a 12MW/12MWh battery energy storage system for utility company Nybro Energi in Sweden, which is expected to be operational by the end of this year.

The project will be fully deployed and put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The battery energy storage system will mainly provide frequency regulation services to Svenska Kraftn ä t, a Swedish transmission system operator (TSO), but may also provide electricity to the grid during peak electricity demand periods in the future.

Due to the increasing number of battery energy storage projects providing flexible services previously provided by Swedish hydroelectric power facilities, the Swedish energy storage market has recently been frequently issuing new project announcements.

The recently announced battery energy storage project is a 20MW/20MWh battery energy storage project acquired by Axpo, the largest energy developer in Switzerland, which will be launched and put into operation next year. During an interview with developer Ingrid Capacity at the 2023 Energy Storage Summit held in London in February this year, it was expected that Sweden will have approximately 100-200MW battery energy storage systems online this year.
