It is reported that the Thai government is negotiating with power battery manufacturers such as Ningde Times to build production facilities in Thailand. This may mean that CATL's lithium battery production base plans to expand to Southeast Asia.
Not only the Ningde era, but also more battery companies may be building production bases in Thailand
According to CATL's official website, the company currently has 13 production bases worldwide, including 11 in China, 1 in Hungary, and 1 in Germany. The company currently does not have production facilities in Southeast Asia.
On the Thai side, as the second largest economy in Southeast Asia, Thailand has always hoped to become a regional electric vehicle production center. It is understood that Thailand is promoting the popularization and production of electric vehicles by providing tax reductions and subsidies, striving to become one of the key participants in the global electric vehicle supply chain.
Thailand is currently the tenth largest automotive manufacturing economy in the world, with local car production led by Japanese automakers, including Toyota and Isuzu Motors. According to the Thai government's plan, Thailand plans to convert approximately 30% of its annual car production capacity (2.5 million units) into electric vehicles by 2030.
The goal of the Thai government is to support and subsidize large-scale battery production facilities, and Thailand is also prioritizing funding investment for factories with annual production capacity exceeding 8GWh.
