German home energy storage and virtual power plant (VPP) provider Sonnen has said it has deployed 86 ecoLinx battery storage systems in a new building complex in the US state of Florida.
Sonnen has partnered with local sustainable home builder Pearl Homes to deploy these residential battery storage systems at HuntersPoint Energy Community in Cortez, Manati County.
All 86 households in the community will own and operate residential solar power facilities and Sonnen ecoLinx battery storage systems, which means clean energy access to electricity in the event of a grid outage. Pearl Homes said the project was designed to provide community residents with electrical independence and reduce electricity bills.
Sonnen did not specify in the press release which ecoLinx battery storage system will be deployed, with storage capacities ranging from 12kWh to 30kWh.
Homes developed by Hunters Point meet Net Zero LEED Plus standards, marking their sustainability certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) global building certification program.
Sonnen, acquired by Shell in 2019, has become Germany's largest provider of home energy storage systems, and the company has recently entered the US market through partnerships with utilities and home builders.
The company focuses on deploying and aggregating battery energy storage systems in virtual power plants (VPPs), then combining these residential battery systems into a larger-scale energy storage system to help relieve grid strain. The company works with U.S. utility Rocky Mountain Power in regional Utah, Wyoming and Idaho, as well as with New York Community Choice Aggregator (CCA) Sustainable Westchester.
