South Africa will start six-level power curtailment measures, most areas will lose power for 6 hours a day

On June 28, the South African National Electricity Company (Eskom) stated that due to the serious deterioration of the operation status and the reduction of power supply to the grid, South Africa will start the sixth-level power blackout on the evening of June 28. Level 6 blackouts mean that most of South Africa will experience continuous or intermittent power outages for six hours a day during the blackout period.

The National Electricity Company of South Africa said that on the night of June 27, 10 power generating units in the country suddenly stopped working. Although emergency repairs have brought 3 units back to normal, the total power loss is as high as 17,621 megawatts. At the same time, coal and labor problems caused by the strike also caused serious damage to the power supply system.

The outage was the largest in the country since December 2019.
