Salt River Project (SRP), a public utility manufacturer of Arizona, has signed two large battery energy storage systems for power procurement agreements, which will enable the company to have an installation capacity of an energy storage system of 800MW.
SRP has recently said that it has signed a 250MW Sierra Estrella energy storage project with renewable energy developer Plus Power. The duration of these two battery energy storage systems is 4 hours, which means that the size of the Sierra Estrella battery energy storage system is 250MW/1000MWh, while the SuperStition battery energy storage system is 90MW/360MWH.
The SRP company was awarded the 1360MWH battery energy storage system contract through the bidding launched in October 2021, which aims to be operated in early 2024. SRP plans to open the 400MW battery energy storage system by the summer of 2024, and then operate the 1GW battery energy storage system by 2026.
The battery energy storage system will help meet the capacity demand during the peak period of electricity in summer. These energy storage systems also provide support for the plans set by SRP. The company's plan will be installed in 2025 to install a public business scale of more than 2GW solar power facilities and the long -term goal of achieving decarburization. By 2035, it will be reduced by 65%, and it will be reduced by 90%by 2050.
SRP will dispatch the battery energy storage system to help meet the peak power demand. Just like California and Nevada in western and southwestern, the peak of power is usually the evening after solar power generation.
A subsidiary of Plus Power will have and operate Sierra Estrella and SuperStition battery energy storage system. These two battery energy storage systems will be deployed in Evaier and Gilbert in Arizona.
The company focuses on an independent deployment battery energy storage system connected to the transmission line, and has completed the deployment of several projects, especially in California. However, the company's flagship energy storage project has so far been deployed by Kapolei Energy Storage battery energy storage system in Hawaii, which is said to be close to the end of the installation stage.
Kapolei Energy Storage energy storage project, located in Wakahu, Hawaii, is by far the largest independent deployment of battery energy storage projects in the state. Its scale is 185MW/565MWH. The project is to help replace the only coal -fired power plant currently in Hawaii. This power plant has been closed a few months ago.
Plus Power has obtained a contract with the bidding of Hawaii Electric Power Corporation (HECO). The company has completed a $ 219 million project financing at the end of 2021.
Like Kapolei Energy Storage battery energy storage system, the battery energy storage project deployed by Plus Power for SRP will use Tesla MEGAPACK lithium -ion battery energy storage system.
By the summer of 2024, the output of the battery energy storage system will reach 10% of the peak load
At the same time, SRP stated that by 2024, the company's 800MW battery energy storage system stored power can meet the 10%of the power demand during peak values. These include a large -scale new solar+energy storage project, an existing solar power generation facility of an independent deployed battery storage project and a planned matching battery energy storage system, and all these projects will be opened in 2023.
In September 2021, the company has launched its largest battery energy storage project to date. This 25MW/100MWH battery energy storage project also uses Tesla MEGAPACKS battery energy storage system. Near the AGUAFRIA thermal power plant, which is connected to the existing substation of SRP.
