The "Han-Ho Hydrogen Consortium" consisting of South Korea's Zinc Industry, petrochemicals group Hanwha Impact Corp, SK Gas and others plans to build 3 gigawatts of renewable energy power in Collinsville, Queensland, Australia.
The Queensland government and related companies say the electricity will be used in electrolyzers to split water and produce green hydrogen, which will then be used to produce ammonia for export to South Korea. The goal is to produce 1 million tons of green ammonia per year for export by 2032.
The statement did not mention the estimated cost of the mega project.
Green ammonia is considered the main substitute for coal in the power generation process and the best way to transport green hydrogen, which can be used as a transport fuel as well as in steelmaking.
