Toyota is currently the leader in the Solid-state battery industry, with more than 1000 patents. In 2020, Toyota produced a prototype vehicle equipped with Solid-state battery. The company said that how to mass produce and reduce costs is the key to popularizing Solid-state battery. According to the data of the Japan Science and Technology Agency, the manufacturing cost of Solid-state battery is about 60000 to 350000 yen per kilowatt hour, which is 4-25 times that of lithium-ion batteries.
Toyota's electric vehicle sales have been poor, with only 20000 units sold throughout 2022. The company hopes to expand its sales to 1.5 million vehicles by 2026 and 3.5 million vehicles by 2030.
