Vistra Energy, an American power generation and retailer, recently announced that it has completed the expansion of its MossLanding energy storage system in California, which is the largest lithium battery energy storage system in the world today.
The company stated on August 1st that the third phase of the expansion project began commercial operation in early June of this year. After adding 350MW/1400MWh, the overall scale has reached 750MW/3000MWh.
This is after Vistra Energy completed the first phase of the 300MW/1200MWh project in 2020, and then added 100MW/400MWh in the second phase of the second year.
Vistra Energy pointed out that the expansion project was completed on schedule within 16 months, deploying over 110000 batteries in 112 containers.
If market conditions permit, the final scale of the Moslantin energy storage system can reach 1.5GW/6GWh.
Vistra Energy previously claimed that by 2026, the cumulative installed capacity of its battery storage systems deployed in the United States will exceed 1.2GW. The company has a variety of energy assets, including renewable energy, fossil fuels, nuclear power, and energy storage systems.
