What is a lithium-ion polymer battery?

According to the different electrolyte materials used in lithium-ion batteries, lithium-ion batteries can be divided into two categories: liquid lithium-ion batteries (referred to as LIB) and polymer lithium-ion batteries (polymer lithium ion battery, abbreviated as LIP).


The positive and negative electrode materials used in polymer lithium ion batteries are the same as those used in liquid lithium ion batteries. The positive electrode materials can be classified into lithium cobaltate, lithium manganate, ternary materials and lithium iron phosphate materials, and the negative electrode is graphite, and the working principle of the batteries is basically the same.


The main difference between them is the electrolyte, liquid lithium-ion batteries use a liquid electrolyte, while polymer lithium-ion batteries are replaced with a solid polymer electrolyte. The polymer can be either "dry" or "colloidal", and most of them use polymer colloidal electrolyte at present.


Polymer lithium-ion batteries can be divided into three categories.


(1) solid polymer electrolyte lithium-ion batteries


The electrolyte is a mixture of polymer and salt, this kind of battery has low ionic conductivity at room temperature and can be used at room temperature.


(2) Gel polymer electrolyte lithium ion battery


That is, additives such as plasticizers are added to the solid polymer electrolyte so as to improve the ionic conductivity and make the battery usable at room temperature.


(3) Lithium-ion battery with polymer cathode material
