The chemical properties of lithium metal are very active, which makes the processing, preservation and use of lithium metal very demanding for the environment. Therefore, lithium batteries have not been used for a long time. With the development of science and technology, lithium batteries have now become the mainstream.
Lithium batteries can be broadly divided into two categories: lithium metal batteries and lithium ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries do not contain lithium in the metallic state and are rechargeable. The fifth generation of rechargeable batteries, lithium metal batteries, was born in 1996, and its specific capacity, self-discharge rate and performance-to-price ratio are better than lithium ion batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries are now widely used in electric vehicles, energy storage and digital products.
A charge cycle means that all of the battery's charge goes from full to empty and then from empty to full, which is not the same as a single charge. For example, a lithium battery is only half charged on one day, and then it is fully charged again. If the second day is still so, i.e., use half of it to charge, a total of two charges down, this can only be counted as one charge cycle, not two.
Therefore, it may usually take several charges to complete a cycle. Each time a charge cycle is completed, the battery capacity decreases a little. However, this reduction in power is very small, and high-quality batteries will retain 80 percent of their original capacity after multiple cycles, and many lithium-powered products will still be used as usual after two or three years.
Previously, the market believes that the service life of lithium batteries is only two to three years, and the number of cycles is about 300-500 times. Now, the high-speed development of lithium batteries, life has been greatly enhanced.
For example, some car companies can do a lifetime warranty on lithium batteries, cycle life, lithium iron phosphate batteries have been in more than 3000-4000 times. Some companies are developing 5000 times - 6000 times the cycle life of automotive grade batteries. Energy storage batteries, cycle life is also higher.
