Advantages of graphene batteries

Graphene is considered to be one of the most potential materials in the future, but for now, its foam composition is greater than its practical application value. There are many factors hindering the popularization of this material, and mass producibility and cost are the most important popularization. Obstacles, graphene batteries may still have a long way to go to completely replace lithium-ion batteries in a short period of time.

Graphene is known as the king of new materials by researchers and major media. It is a new type of nanomaterial known to mankind with high strength, good toughness, light weight, high light transmittance and good electrical conductivity. The performance of graphene batteries is much better than that of lithium-ion batteries, especially in terms of battery power characteristics, electric capacity, and life. However, graphene has not yet reached the practical stage, and there is still a long way to go before mass production.

Graphene battery is a kind of honeycomb flat film formed by carbon atoms in the sp2 hybrid manner. It is a quasi-two-dimensional material with a thickness of only one atomic layer, so it is also called single atomic layer graphite. A new energy battery is developed by utilizing the characteristics of rapid and massive shuttle motion of lithium ions between the graphene surface and electrodes. Due to its high electrical conductivity, high strength, ultra-thinness and other characteristics, the application advantages of graphene in the special field of aerospace are also extremely prominent.

Advantages of Graphene Battery Fabrication

1. A single full charge only takes less than 8 minutes;

2. The service life is four times that of traditional hydrogenated batteries and twice that of lithium-ion batteries;

3. The weight is only half of the traditional battery;

4. Battery cost is 77% lower than Li-ion battery.

It can be seen that graphene batteries have considerable potential and are the best material to replace lithium-ion batteries. Due to the poor safety and fire risk of lithium-ion batteries, graphene batteries have become a hot research direction in recent years.

From the point of view of use alone, graphene batteries are fully capable of serving the purposes of lithium-ion batteries. They have greater storage capacity and faster charging speeds, and are more durable than lithium-ion batteries at high temperatures.

Although graphene batteries are better than lithium-ion batteries in many theoretical performances, it is still unable to replace the status of lithium-ion batteries due to various factors.

First of all, the cost of graphene batteries is extremely high. The current price of 1 gram of highly conductive graphene as a raw material is as high as 600 yuan. Secondly, the production process of graphene batteries is still immature, and it is currently only in the laboratory stage and cannot reach the point of mass production.
