GM to partner with Pilot to build nationwide charging network

General Motors and tour operator Pilot recently announced that the two sides will build a nationwide network of 2,000 electric vehicle charging points at Pilot's tourism center to facilitate electric vehicle owners charging near highways.

The new charging stations will be co-branded with "Pilot Flying J" and "Ultium Charge 360", the parties said. The charging stations will be powered by EVgo and will be open to all EV brands in up to 500 Pilot and Flying J travel centres. The companies did not disclose the amount invested in the plan.

GM and Pilot said the goal of the partnership is to build a charging station every 50 miles. The project is part of a nearly $750 million investment in electric vehicle charging infrastructure previously announced by GM.

GM previously said it was working with EVgo to build a network of 3,250 charging stations in major urban areas by 2025. Pilot also recently announced plans to invest $1 billion to upgrade its travel center.

The U.S. government wants to have 50 percent of all new cars sold in the U.S. come from pure electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2030, and build 500,000 new electric vehicle charging stations.
