From the point of view of lithium battery technology type, the current Chinese power lithium battery technology type is mainly lithium iron phosphate, Japan and South Korea are mainly ternary materials and manganese system, from the technical development trend, the future ternary materials will gradually replace lithium iron phosphate as the mainstream technology route of China's power lithium battery.
As early as before the second half of 2014, lithium iron phosphate is the mainstream battery route for pure electric passenger cars, the second half of 2014, the mainstream passenger car enterprises in addition to BYD, SAIC are ternary lithium batteries used in listed models, including Changan, FAW, BAIC, Chery, JAC, Zotye and other enterprises. These models have a battery capacity between 20-30kwh and a range of 150-250km.
From a global perspective, the research and development and production of ternary materials are being promoted by all parties. In this process, the material performance has improved significantly and the application areas have been expanded again and again. Japanese and Korean companies are the leaders in the research and development of ternary material batteries. Domestic ternary material production started around 2015, and now there are also a number of large-scale enterprises.
Ternary materials have excellent characteristics such as high capacity, low cost and good safety, and have good prospects for development in the field of power lithium batteries. With the advantages of high energy density and relatively low cost of ternary materials, the next 3 to 5 years, ternary applications for power batteries will become mainstream, high-end ternary material power batteries will be in short supply.
LFP is the mainstream of bus batteries, due to the large capacity of bus batteries, high requirements for battery safety, car companies are mostly cautious about switching to ternary, and buses are fixed route driving, for energy density is not as urgent as passenger cars, so it is expected that the next three years LFP battery is still the mainstream of bus batteries.
