According to Ember's new analysis, the EU's wind and solar power generation have surpassed other power sources for the first time in 2022. They provide a total of one -fifth of the EU power generation, which is higher than the share of natural gas or nuclear power.
In terms of specific numbers, in 2022, solar power generation in continental Europe has increased by nearly a quarter, helping Europeans avoid 10 billion euros of natural gas costs. Ember's data shows that more than two -thirds of regions in Europe, including the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany, have set new records in the solar power field.
Considering the continuous development trajectory, it is expected that the growth trend of wind and solar energy will continue in 2023, especially for many countries that are experiencing new solar booms.
In view of the above situation, it is expected that fossil fuel power generation may decrease by 20%in 2023, which is unprecedented, which is twice the previous record observed in 2020.
