Mercedes-Benz plans to build 100MW wind farm in Germany

Mercedes-Benz said recently that it plans to build a wind farm in the northwestern German state of Lower Saxony by 2025, which will be able to produce 100 megawatts of electricity, equivalent to the company's annual electricity production in Germany more than 15% of the demand.

Mercedes-Benz did not say how many wind turbines it will install, but if each turbine generates an average of 2.75 megawatts per year, the company will need more than 36 units to reach the 100-megawatt target.

As part of its decarbonisation efforts, the company also plans to sign a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) worth hundreds of millions of euros with a partner.

In addition to the wind project, the group is also considering other green energy projects on the 800-hectare proving ground in Papenburg, including the establishment of a large-scale solar photovoltaic power plant. The local government will review and evaluate the project plan and its ecological impact.

Mercedes-Benz AG's factories have achieved carbon-neutral production and plan to use renewable energy for 70 percent of its production by 2030. To achieve this, the group is focusing on expanding solar and wind power at its own sites and providing clean energy through PPAs. The automaker said that by 2025, 100 million euros will be invested in the installation of photovoltaic systems alone.
