Michigan utility DTE Energy has signed an agreement with Ford to supply 650MW of solar PV for Ford operations

DTE Energy, a Michigan-based power company, has signed an agreement with renowned automaker Ford to supply 650MW of solar photovoltaic power to Ford's operations in Michigan.

Under the agreement, Ford will achieve 100 percent carbon-free electricity in Michigan by 2025, 10 years ahead of Ford's global goal.

DTE Energy said the strategic investment was made through the company's "MIGreenPower" program, which will be the largest-ever renewable energy purchase agreement for a utility in the United States.

So far, 600 companies and more than 62,000 residential customers have signed up to the scheme and registered 2.8 million MWh of renewable electricity.

Additionally, Michigan's total solar capacity will increase by nearly 70% once the 650MW solar project is installed, according to data collected by DTE Energy from trade body the Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA).

While Ford has yet to fully enter the electric vehicle (EV) market, the company is currently building its only all-electric model, the F-150 Lightning pickup, at its Dearborn, Michigan plant, for which Ford has partnered with energy storage provider Sunrun to develop an electric vehicle. with charging system
