Powerbox, one of the largest power companies in Europe and a leader in optimizing power solutions for demanding applications for over 40 years, has released the OFI1200A, a 1200WAC/DC power supply for industrial applications. The OFI1200A optimizes conduction cooling for efficient operation over a substrate temperature range of -40°C to +95°C without the need for fans to cool down. Features universal input voltage 85 to 305VAC with power factor correction (PFC). It has a wide range of applications, and the output voltage and current can be adjusted from near zero to the maximum allowed for each model.
Many industrial applications require power supplies to operate with limited or no ventilation cooling, in this regard those operating in harsh environments where electronics are housed in sealed enclosures, radio communication systems, outdoor displays and Traffic signals, and indoor equipment with very strict audible noise limits, in addition to environmental requirements, reliability and maintenance costs drive system designers away from fans and blowers.
Passing down to cooling requires very specific build practices, PRBX's OFI1200A is designed to ensure optimal heat transfer from the heat sink assembly to the substrate, delivering high performance over the substrate's -40°C to +95°C operating range. Depending on the assembly method and overall cooling conditions, the output may be derated as specified in the technical documentation.
To cover a wide range of applications, the OFI1200A can operate over a universal input range of 85 to 305VAC (100 to 277VAC nominal). The unit includes a PFC with a factor of 0.98/0.95 (110VAC/230VAC).
The OFI1200A is available in three versions of single output DC voltage, 12V/84A, 28V/43A and 48V/25A. The typical efficiency of the 48V output unit is as high as 92% at 230VAC input due to the use of a highly efficient topology.
Industrial applications such as professional lighting and even low-power electrolyzers require a constant current from the power supply and must be easily regulated. Typically, such equipment operates in environments that require electronic equipment to be enclosed and protected from hazards. This requires the power supply to provide external control to adjust the output voltage and/or current from the maximum allowed to near zero.
To enable customers to precisely adjust the voltage and current according to their application, the OFI1200A provides two analog inputs, VTRM and ITRM. Using these features, the output voltage and current can be adjusted from near zero to the maximum values specified for each model. For example, the 28V output can be adjusted from near-zero volts up to 33.6V, the output current can be adjusted from near-zero amps up to 43A, and the output voltage can also be adjusted using the provided on-board potentiometer.
Extended trim and control functions simplify the use of the power supply in constant voltage (CV) or cross-current (CC) mode without adding external circuitry.
For applications requiring redundancy or higher power, up to nine units can be paralleled to provide an impressive total power level of up to 9720W in conduction cooled mode. To maintain maximum efficiency in parallel or redundant mode, the OFI1200A28 and OFI1200A48 offer an optional active ORing circuit using high-performance FET technology (Option-O).
For safety, the IN/OUT isolation voltage of OFI1200A is 3000VAC, the isolation voltage of IN/FG is 2000VAC, and the output isolation of FG is 500VAC. The power supply includes overcurrent protection, overvoltage and overtemperature protection with automatic recovery.
The OFI1200A board includes easy access to auxiliary functions via on-board connectors, namely: remote control, output voltage detection, power monitoring, VTRM, ITRM.
The OFI1200A has passed the shock and vibration tests specified by MIL-STD-810H. In this regard, the product has been tested to levels well above normal operating conditions, and the power supply is designed to withstand shocks up to 20G.
The OFI1200A open frame measures 142 x 39 x 260mm (5.59 x 1.54 x 10.36 inches) and has a maximum weight of 1.2kg. The optional metal cover adds only 1mm of height and 200g of weight (option-N).
Thanks to a design optimized for conduction cooling, the OFI1200A is suitable for applications that require a quiet power solution, such as control rooms. Likewise, it is suitable for industrial applications where forced ventilation is not possible due to environmental constraints. Connected to a chassis or cold plate, the OFI1200A can deliver impressive power levels and high reliability.
