The average life expectancy in Sweden is increasing year by year, and the challenges of an aging population are increasing year by year. In recent years, faced with the dual challenges of continuous shortage of nursing talents and "super aging", Sweden has taken active actions to introduce artificial intelligence in the field of elderly care and vigorously promote the comprehensive digital intelligent pilot project of community elderly care.
Eskilstina, a city of about 107,000 people in east-central Sweden, was one of the first in the country to start offering a digital holistic solution for home care services. Robots, artificial intelligence and communication platforms optimize support for the elderly, saving care staff a lot of time and less time spent on daily work and transportation, thus focusing more human and material resources on improving the well-being of the elderly.
The city is working with ATEA Norway, the largest provider of IT solutions in Northern Europe and the second largest in Europe, to offer digital integrated care solutions to local seniors in phases over the next few years. According to the report, nursing robots have moved into the homes of about 20 elderly people in the city last autumn. They distribute medicines on time every day and track the medicines they are taking. By the end of this year, the company plans to introduce new care robots with a virtual AI assistant called "Lily," adding the ability to hold conversations with the elderly.
The goal of the digital Smart retirement program is to create conditions that allow seniors to live more independently, said John Lindstrom, executive director of the city's eldercare division. "We need to increase older people's sense of security and independence in their daily lives and reduce their feelings of loneliness."
But he stressed that robotic nursing assistants cannot be an alternative to old age alone, and that relying on digital intelligence must be a whole system. The newly upgraded intelligent assistant needs to be combined with existing digital solutions to proactively adapt to the situation and needs of the elderly. Plans for the elderly need to be developed and promoted in consultation with each person's doctor, nurse and other staff. They evaluate individual cases and develop flexible care solutions over two or three years.
The introduction of the digital intelligent integration program has made the life of the local elderly have a surprise change, and the staff is more convenient and flexible.
According to the report, there are several elements that are necessary to build the future of elderly care services. First, the use of nursing robots to ensure that the elderly receive the right dose of medication at the right time. Second, establish communication platforms including AI assistants to provide more intelligent and humane elderly care services. Thirdly, the smart technology of camera and sensor is added so that if something goes wrong in the care, the sensor device can sound the alarm in time. It is also important to enable social apps that make it easy for seniors to connect with volunteers. (Fu Yiming)
