Telecom joins hands with Tower to initiate LFP backup power centralized procurement bidding

Recently, China Tower and China Telecom announced the joint organization of the procurement of lithium iron phosphate batteries for backup power. At present, bidders are invited to participate in the testing of battery products. The sample model is required to be 48V/100Ah. The testing is divided into the system, BMS, and platform access. three parts.

In addition, the "Implementation Rules for the Testing of Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries" require samples of 5 battery packs, 1 BMS, and 9 single cells. The testing of lithium iron phosphate batteries for backup power is divided into three parts: system, BMS, and platform access. In terms of safety performance, batteries are required to not fire or explode under conditions such as resistance to overcharge, deep discharge, impact resistance, high-temperature resistance, and short circuit resistance.

5G base station construction, as the main force of China's seven "new infrastructure" this year, has set off a wave of demand for lithium batteries. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries gradually occupy the current mainstream market for communication base station power supplies with their safety and cost-effective advantages, and it is also one of the main development trends of communication base station power supplies.

At the end of May, China Tower announced a bid for the centralized procurement of 2GWh spare lithium iron phosphate batteries in 2020. Five companies including Shuangdeng Group, Narada Power, Penghui Energy, Zhongtian Technology, and Shengyang Power won the bid.

At the end of April, China Mobile purchased about 1.95GWh of lithium iron phosphate battery products for communications at a maximum price of over 2.5 billion RMB. In the end, eight companies won the bid: Zhongtian Technology, Haistar, Shuangdeng Group, and Yiwei Lithium. Neng, Narada Power, Vision Power, MANLY Battery, Lilang Battery, the lowest bidding price is about 0.661 RMB/Wh, and the winning bid is 1.368 billion RMB.

In 2020, institutions including China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Tower have all released multiple bidding projects for lithium iron phosphate battery backup power for base stations, clarifying the use of lithium iron phosphate batteries to replace lead-acid applications in the field of 5G base stations. It provides a good development opportunity for a large number of lithium iron phosphate battery companies.

The policy level also gave the lithium iron phosphate battery affirmation. The Energy Conservation Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology responded to recommendation No. 4937 of the Third Session of the 13th National People's Congress, clearly supporting the large-scale use of lithium iron phosphate energy storage batteries in communication base stations, and boosting the high-quality development of 5G.

With the gradual rise of 5G networks, GGII expects that the construction of communication towers will accelerate from 2020 to 2025. By 2025, the number of communication towers will increase to 13 million, basically realizing major cities in the world. 5G network coverage.

According to market research and estimates, GGII's 2018 global communication base station lithium battery market demand was 7.4GWh, which increased by 64.1% year-on-year to 12.1GWh in 2019. From 2020 to 2025, the demand for base station lithium batteries will increase significantly. GGII predicts that the global market demand for base station lithium batteries will reach 60GWh in 2025.

What needs to be vigilant is that although low-price competition of battery companies can quickly enter the market, it is not conducive to the long-term stable development of the industry. Enterprises need to practice hard work, continuously improve product performance, reduce costs and increase efficiency, and ensure the sound development of enterprises.
