UAE MASDAR company acquires British battery storage developer Arlington Energy

The UAE Renewable Energy Giant Masdar recently said that it has acquired Arlington Energy, a British battery storage developer to expand its influence in the renewable energy market in the UK and Europe.

ARLINGTON ENERGY is headquartered in London, England, mainly developing, constructing, operating and financing flexible energy storage solutions. The company said that in the past two years, it has been launched more than 170MW energy storage system.

ARLINGTON ENERGY announced in 2018 that after obtaining an initial financing of 200 million pounds from an overseas institutional investment fund, it plans to deploy a combination of a 1GW energy storage system and the peak of natural gas power plants in the UK.

ARLINGTON ENERGY has been acquired by MASDAR, and is expected to continue to expand in the British market and develop a more powerful renewable energy project portfolio. This will make the development, construction, operation management and financing of the two companies' battery storage projects possible.

Masdar described itself as "one of the fastest growing renewable energy companies in the world" and plans to achieve the use of 100GW renewable energy target by 2030.

The deployment of more battery energy storage systems is a vital aspect of energy transformation. As Britain takes intermittent solar power and wind power as part of its energy transformation, it is necessary to deploy sufficient energy storage systems to balance the power grid operation.

According to a white paper jointly released by GridBeyond and Thrive Renewables, in order to quickly deploy battery energy storage projects, superimposed value and optimization have always been regarded as key factors that have attractive investment opportunities.
