Volvo charging models continue to make efforts

Volvo Cars recently announced May sales data. In May, the company's retail sales were 45,952 units, down 28.3% from the same period last year; from January to May, the retail sales were 241,397 units, a year-on-year decrease of 22.8%. Although the overall sales volume has declined, it is worth noting that the market demand for Volvo car charging models is still strong, and the sales figures continue to be bright.

Data show that in May, Volvo Cars' share of pure electric vehicles increased to 7.9% compared to last year. Sales of charging models accounted for 33.6% of total sales, an increase of 10 percentage points compared to the same month in 2021.

By region, Volvo Cars Europe sold 18,752 vehicles in May, down 24.3 percent from the same period last year. Sales of Recharge models accounted for 47% of the region's total sales for the month, of which 1,847 pure electric models were sold, a year-on-year increase of 35.6%. From January to May, the European sales of the company's pure electric models reached 12,171 units, a year-on-year increase of 114.6%.

In the U.S., Volvo Cars sold 9,372 vehicles in May, down 29.1 percent from a year earlier, with Recharge models accounting for 35.7 percent of total sales. Sales of Recharge models in the region reached 13,787 units from January to May, an increase of 81.4% year-on-year.

In addition, Volvo Cars said that in May, the new crown pneumonia epidemic added more pressure to an already strained global supply chain, causing the company to lose production. Despite the recent improvement in supply and a slight increase in production, it had a negative impact on the company's BEV production in the second quarter, which in turn had a certain impact on BEV deliveries in the third quarter.
