Burgerland Energie has started building a battery energy storage project using organic solid flow technology

Austrian energy supplier Burgerland Energie has started building a 300 megawatt hour energy storage project based on organic solid flow technology. This system is based on high-performance organic energy storage molecules. The material used is lignin. It is filled into two separate tanks and combined in a special unit for biochemical reactions.

The material is organic, nonflammable and non explosive, and can experience more than 10000 Charge cycle. The Flow battery system is designed with multiple battery packs and is only suitable for fixed storage applications, but it is easy to expand to the gigawatt level.

The storage system is tested directly at a hybrid power plant. Burgenland Energy completed a 15 megawatt photovoltaic system at the beginning of this year. The organic SolidFlow battery connected to the solar park was originally located in a battery laboratory in a 40 foot long air conditioning and location independent container. Then, other batteries will be installed in different locations.
