Enel Brasil, the Brazilian subsidiary of Italian power company Enel Brasil, has signed an agreement to sell its entire stake in a 327-megawatt gas-fired thermal power plant to local energy company Eneva SA, thereby becoming a 100% renewable energy supplier in the country.
The deal, worth BRL 467 million, also includes payments of up to BRL 97 million for future re-contracting of the plant.
The facility, called Central Geradora Termeletrica Fortaleza, is located in the Pecem industrial and port complex in the state of Ceara.
The company said the sale is part of Enel's carbon neutral plan, which aims to achieve zero emissions by 2040 and triple its global renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Enel expects to close the transaction in the third quarter of 2022, as it is subject to certain precedent conditions, including approval by antitrust regulator CADE and the internal governance bodies of both parties and their shareholders.
