CHONGLI, Hebei, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Jeff Lipshut, head of the Australian Winter Olympics delegation, praised the facilities at the first delegation press conference in Zhangjiakou for the Beijing Winter Olympics on Jan. 30 and said athletes should focus on achieving their sporting dreams during the Winter Olympics.
Lipshut is a "veteran" of the Winter Olympics and has participated in five Winter Games with the team. At the press conference, he was excited to tell the media what he saw at the Genting Ski Park in Zhangjiakou: "I was impressed by the mountains here, and the design of the venue is perfect!"
In response to a question from the Australian media about "how to evaluate the use of artificial snow at the Beijing Winter Olympics", Lipshut pointed out that the use of artificial snow for the track is not only a convention but also a requirement that must be met.
"Artificial snow means a harder surface for competitive trails, which means that the trails are more stable in nature and more able to withstand impact and pressure." This head of the Australian Winter Olympic delegation said.
"Most competitive snow tracks use artificial snow and without a hard, tight snow crystal surface, track snow conditions can be easily damaged." He added.
Lipshut said athletes should use the Beijing Winter Olympics as a stage to realize their sporting dreams and focus on athletics itself. "Australian athletes see the Beijing Winter Olympics as a huge opportunity and they are having a great time in China," he said.
As it is summer in the southern hemisphere, many Australian winter athletes have been training outside their home country for months before arriving in Beijing. To bring a taste of home to these travelers, Lipschoot said the Australian Winter Olympics delegation also includes a barista from Queensland who will be serving 'real Australian coffee' in the Zhangjiakou Winter Olympics Village.
The Australian Winter Olympics delegation will participate in curling, short track speed skating, figure skating, snowmobile, bobsled, steel frame snowmobile, alpine skiing, snowboarding, freestyle skiing, and cross-country skiing in a total of 10 events. Including 21 male athletes and 23 female athletes, a total of 44 people, including 30 people competing in Zhangjiakou.
