Produce Oreos with solar energy!

The Malaysian subsidiary of Mondelez International (NASDAQ:MDLZ), owner of snack brands such as Oreo, Milka and Cadbury, has signed up with NEFIN Group, a provider of carbon neutral solutions, in Roof-mounted solar panels at two of its local manufacturing plants.

As part of the new partnership, 1,266 solar panels will be deployed on top of the chocolate factory in Shah Alam, Selangor, and another 1,754 solar panels will be installed on the roof of the Perai Biscuit and Salty Snacks factory.

Combined, the two solar panel arrays will generate 1.8 million KWh of electricity in the first year alone, and are expected to help Mondelez save 11.18 million ringgit ($2.65 million/€2.45 million) over the next 25 years.

Chong Bor Hung, business development director and general manager of Malaysia at NEFIN Group, said the two companies have successfully conducted such cooperation in Thailand and are discussing other similar projects in Southeast Asia.
